Titanom is proud of its partnership with the Digital Education Foundation, which began in 2020. Together, innovative digital teaching and learning tools have been developed for use in school lessons. An innovative vocabulary trainer and a training center with adaptive exercises were developed in close cooperation. Together we are researching the combination of didactics and technology for the future of learning in the classroom!

Digital Education Foundation

The Digital Education Foundation pursues the goal of raising educational standards for all pupils. With bundled expertise, a high level of commitment and its own foundation funds, it develops scalable, affordable digital learning tools that lead to significantly higher learning and teaching success. At the same time, it creates structures and processes that enable rapid nationwide expansion. Driven by the shared motivation to create more AHA moments in learning through digitalization, the development partnership with Titanom Technologies GmbH was launched.

Feedback engines, vocabulary trainers & co.

Many pupils are unable to keep up in class, feel bored and are unable to recognize and close their own knowledge gaps. At the same time, due to the shortage of teachers, teachers are unable to devote sufficient individual attention to each pupil and provide the necessary support. For this reason, the Digital Education Foundation is developing learning tools that use storytelling and other methods to encourage pupils to engage in self-motivated learning. These tools are also equipped with technologies that help learners to identify and remedy their knowledge gaps independently. This has been proven to be an effective way of tackling current challenges in the classroom.

THIS IS THE PRODUCT

As part of the development of various learning tools, Titanom has developed a vocabulary trainer and an adaptive training center with a multi-level feedback system. For the vocabulary trainer, the latest methods of artificial intelligence were used to enrich newly created vocabulary cards with metadata and to generate example sentences, images and audios.

The test mode also makes it possible to validate pronunciation. In the training area, adaptive learning paths with over 5000 graphically prepared exercises were developed. AI methods were used to validate free text entries, graphical and mathematical math problems and simple drag-and-drop tasks for specific error patterns. Based on the AI classifications, multi-level feedback was provided to help students learn independently from their mistakes.

Metadata enrichment: In 2021, newly created flashcards in the vocabulary trainer were automatically enriched with example sentences, synonyms, antonyms, audio files and sample images. This multimedia enhancement increases motivation when learning and practising the individual foreign words.
Validation of the debate: In the vocabulary trainer, pupils have the opportunity to pronounce the foreign word and have their pronunciation validated when learning a flashcard. In this way, they can improve their pronunciation independently.
Semantic analysis of free text input: Before the introduction of ChatGPT, the training center was already able to evaluate free text input from learners using embeddings and vector spaces. Fine-tuning by teachers continuously improves the accuracy of the system, which significantly reduces the effort involved in correcting the tasks.

For me, developing the training center for the Digital Education Foundation was my first software project in the education sector. It made me realize how important it is to work in an area that addresses a real social need – something I had not experienced to the same extent in previous projects. During our partnership, I was able to expand my knowledge in the field of didactics and learning psychology. Looking back, I am very grateful for this learning opportunity. I also felt a lot of self-efficacy when we got heavily involved with our team from Titanom Technologies GmbH and the Digital Education Foundation team and put a lot of heart and soul into the project, which ultimately helped many students. It’s always nice to see how something thrives and grows when you invest in it.
